Turbo Mode is an OS-controlled operation that automatically allows the processor to run faster than the marked frequency if the processor is operating below power, temperature, and current limits. Intel® product specifications, features and compatibility quick reference guide and code name decoder.

Selective processors in the Intel Xeon 5600 series also support Turbo Mode. In addition, built-in hardware-assisted virtualization technology gives you the power and flexibility to virtualize different generations of Intel Xeon processor-based servers within the same virtualization pool, giving you the ability to migrate workloads to fewer servers at night to save energy.

as well as shipping 2.7GHz 12-core Intel Xeon E5-based Mac Pro systems. Based on new 32nm Intel microarchitecture, the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series reduces energy cost over single-core servers by automatically shifting the CPU and memory into the lowest available power state, while intelligently adjusting performance to application needs. With the greatest performance, expansion, and configurability yet, it is a system. The Intel Xeon processor 5600 series automatically regulates power consumption and intelligently adjusts server performance according to application demand, maximizing both energy cost savings and performance. The Dell PowerEdge R710 server will accept up to two (2) Intel Xeon 5600 series processors.ĭesigned for industry-leading performance and maximum energy efficiency, the Intel Xeon processor 5600 sequence delivers versatile one-way and two-way 64-bit multi-core servers and workstations that are ideally suited for a wide range of infrastructure, cloud, high-density, and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. Vcc) so I would think Vss's unit would be V (voltage).Dell PowerEdge R710 Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors (CPUs) V usually refers to Voltage in the intel spreadsheets, (e.g. If I can recall, if your system does not have enough power, the components start to get hot.Ĭ. (this means you have to have a stable overclock)ī. You have to have a CLEAR signal to prevent damage, which intel stated. I see what you are saying about the bottom part there. They would however provide more stable power for a heavily clocked CPU (though I don't think they will help with preventing damage from high vcore). The Vss seems to be the grounding for the CPU->motherboard package, something 2x 8 pin connectors probably won't help. The sensitivity to high voltage is from the switch to High-k making the transistors more fragile, and susceptible to high voltages (not like the 65nm kentsfield tanks), at least with the early 45nm chips (the problem has been elevated a bit with newer revisions of the 45nm core 2's). The 1.55 volt vcore recommendation is probably to reduce electro-migration problems killing the chip, and I don't think so much about grounding. I have no idea if this is correct, dumb or whatever, if you know why it is better, then please explain, and also explain the vss and cpu vcc subject (relating to eachother).

I would also think if the Vss was lower, the CPU gets stressed from it. 2 volts on a regular, 4 on the classified, or that the Vss follows the cpu vcore on the classified. 1.55v Vss.Īnother variation is that Vss is just higher overall, e.g. (default)Ĭlassified CPU power: 1.55 Vcore, 12v (x2?) CPU power.

Normal CPU power:,1.55 Vcore 12v CPU power, 1.33v Vss. This is probably what makes it overclock much better. What I am thinking, is that after a certain point the Vss needs to be higher toĪchieve a higher Vcc without damage, and improve stability at those voltages.Īccording to some people, the EVGA Classified motherboards (X58) uses DUAL(or at least more) CPU power, which would make me think it has a higher Vss.

Seems to be the definition of it in other places. The Graphics Controller (GC) contains an extensive set of registers and instructions for configuration, 2D, 3D, and video systems.
